• Security measures at the venue contribute to meeting numerous mandatory legal conditions for keeping everyone at the venue safe.
• Security checks of personal bags take place upon entry to the venue.
  • Checks are carried out by experienced team members and aim to get you into the venue without delay.
  • Please help in the checks by arriving in good time, by not having in your possession any prohibited items, and bringing with you only a single small bag.
• CCTV cameras are always in operation across the premises.
• Body-worn cameras may be worn by some of our team.
• We have licensed security operatives working alongside our Front of House volunteers.

Security measures in detail

Why must we the venue have a focus on security at our venue?

• Our venue is a premises that is licensed for the sale of alcohol and for entertainment. Although we are somewhat different to a city centre bar, we are nonetheless subject to the same premises licensing conditions, and these have their basis in law.
• Health and safety legislation requires that we provide for the safety of our employees, and we extend the same provision to those that are guests at our venue.

• “Martyn’s Law” requires that we have measures in place to mitigate against acts of terrorism and to be able to respond should an incident occur.

What part can our guests play?

• As our guest, we ask you to be vigilant and encourage you to alert our staff, volunteers or security team if you become aware of anything that may seem to be contrary to our security and safety aims.

How have we developed our security measures?

• Our measures have been developed with support from Lincolnshire Police, our licensed security services provider, and the Lincoln Business Improvement Group’s night-time economy team.
• For our alcohol related activities, we are accredited to the Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative and for this we have a 5-Star rating.
• We regularly audit ourselves against the conditions in our premises license.

• Our counter-terrorism procedures are based on guidance provided by ProtectUK and the National Counter-Terrorism Security Organisation.

What security measures do we have?

• We have bag checks in place at entry points so that we can prevent prohibited items from entering the venue. The checks may be carried out by our ushers or by licensed security operatives from our security services provider. We will not touch your bag, but we may ask you to reveal contents that we can’t see readily. Should you not consent to a bag search, we have the right to deny your entry.
• We do not routinely carry-out any enhanced security searches of personal belongings or of persons. Should enhanced security searches ever be necessary we will try our best to forewarn you early on the day of your visit. If we need to carry-out enhanced security searches, we will only do so with your consent and we will be as unobtrusive as possible. Should you not consent to an enhanced search, we have the right to deny your entry.
• We have CCTV cameras working across the venue that monitor public and non-public spaces both inside the venue and at its outside perimeter. The cameras contribute to our vigilance initiative and recordings may also be used for staff training, safety monitoring and as a source of information should a security incident occur.
• Our Front of House supervisors and licensed security operatives may wear body-worn cameras. The cameras will only be active when necessary to record ‘live’ incidents i.e. they are not recording constantly.

• Licensed security operatives are a mandatory condition of what our premise’s license provide but they also provide an added layer of security expertise. The licensed security operatives will be dressed in their company uniform, but in all other respects they are integrated wholly into our Front of House team.

What security measures may you not notice?

• All our employees, volunteers and others that operate at our venue are trained in how to remain alert to security incidents and how to respond should a security incident occur.

What are the prohibited items?

• Items that are prohibited at our venue are listed below. Please be aware this list is not exhaustive and is subject to change:

• Any item deemed to be capable of being used as a weapon or having the appearance of a weapon;
• Fireworks and other pyrotechnics, including smoke bombs;
• laser pointers, strobe lights and similar light-emitting devices;
• Hand held communication devices that transmit radio signals (e.g. short range radios), radio jammers or radio scanners;
• Hazardous substances (e.g. chemicals, irritants and gas canisters);
• Personal protection sprays or similar ‘mace’ type sprays;
• Substances banned under the Misuse of Drugs Act;
• Alcoholic drinks either in their original container or concealed in such as flasks (to do so contravenes a mandatory condition of our premises license);
• Any item that may give cause for concern that a person could use to demonstrate with whilst at the venue
• Drones.
